Adulterers and Adulteresses

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.(1Jh 2:15)
Looking at the above verse, I cannot help wondering how many Christians subscribe to this teaching of Jesus.   Who incidentally was none other than God himself???  There are approximately 2 billion people in this world who call themselves Christians, and I would venture to say that very, very few of them maintain or practice this commandment.  So if this is indeed the case; the love of God is not really in them, and hence, they are really not true believers; at least this is what the Bible says.  Why is this???

We are given the answer to this question in the next couple of verses.
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  (17)  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."  (1Jn 2:16-17)
Hence it is simple; they are Christians only in name.  They are not doers of the law; in fact, they appear not to be even hearers of the law either.

First, this is a very difficult saying to swallow.  The world is full of beautiful and precious things, and given the covetous nature of mankind, to follow such precept is just about impossible, that is for the natural man.  We seem to want to possess anything that has pleasure written on it.  So is God being unfair for demanding that we live by such a thing???  Some might even question whether Jesus really meant what he said???

Reading a little further in that grand book about this matter, we discover that those who fail to live up to this seemingly impossible command are castigated.
"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God."  (Jas 4:4)
If there were any doubt with Jesus’ command this verse should go far in dissipating that doubt.

Why then do we see all kinds of so-called ministers of the gospel preaching prosperity doctrines???  Why do we see so many of those that call themselves Christians making plans to obtain the things of this world simply because they are desirous and pleasing to their souls???

One can only conclude that these folks have no fear of the consequences of their behavior, or perhaps they believe God to be sleeping and they are “pulling the wool over God’s eyes” so to speak.  I am inclined to believe that they simply are not part of God’s chosen as the scriptures declare.

With Judgment Day so close (181 days away) this is no time to be playing the role of an adulterer or adulteress..  What do you think???
